I can understand the whole experience level is uneven and all.
How much price difference would there be? And is tipping the cosmetology student customary or are they not allowed to take tips?
Do the students usually do good jobs? Would you rather get a pedicure at a nail salon or at a cosmetology school?
i'm not sure what the price difference is exactly but it obviously is cheaper at a cosmetology school...students are allowed to take tips (at most schools) and most people do give tips...students will generally do a good job because they know their instructors are watching them like hawks, and if they're not doing the job right you can ask for the instructor to come and they will either finish the work for the student or tell him/her how to do it right :P oh and new students are not allowed to practice on paying customers so the people that will work on you do have a bit of experience :D

I would go somewhere it's clean. I don't think it makes a difference since you can go to the most expensive nail salon and they don't sanitize properly. As for quality wise I'd choose the nail salon- you get what you pay for.

What is your idea on the perfect pedicure service in a salon?
I am a Hairstylist that owns my shop.I have private pedicure room that I want to use for pedicures. I think pedicures should be relaxing and enjoyable by all. What are your Ideas to make my pedicures get talked about all over town?What is your idea on the perfect pedicure service in a salon?
I like a massage chair with heat. When you exfoliate the feet, you should also go all the way up to their knee with the exfoliate and the massage. I think relaxing music the same as you get when you get a massage is nice (possibly like a ocean or a thunderstorm or rain forest) Good luck.eye brush

I've heard this suggested before, but am wondering if people really do it. If you have, what exactly did you bring, and did the salon have any problem with this. As a nail tech, In my opinion on this is as follows: Yes, a lot of people have the idea that bringing in their own implements is a safe, and efficient way to ensure that sanitary implements are used on them. This makes sense when taken at face value. However, I do not know for a fact that a client who does this sort of thing has done anything to those implements in the way of sanitizing and disinfecting them. So, they may be bringing in the same dirty tools over and over again. Lets say the client had an infection, or a fungal problem at some point recently and that problem is either healed, or is on its way to being healed. By my using their implements - if they were not disinfected properly before she brought them in, there is a good chance that I would simply be reinfecting her by using implements that contained the infection, or fungi n them and is still alive and kicking. Obviously, this would defeat the whole purpose of bringing in oyur own implements. Plus, I run the risk of handling implements which are possibly contaminated and run the risk of those implements passing the germs onto my own body, thus creating an infection in myself. I am not willing to take that risk. The bottom line is this. ALways be absolutely certain the salon you choose strictly adheres to your states laws with regards to sanitation and disinfection. You can observe the tech, ask them about their procedures, and so on. You can also contact your states department of licensing and inquire if any complaints have been filed against that particular salon. However, they won't tell you over the phone in most circumstances. In many states, this information can be found online. It depends on the state. Each has its own way of doing things. But, the person you speak with should be able to tell you how to obtain detailed information about a particular salon, whether it be through records requests, or online. They will know, but let me tell you one thing about state government employees in general. Note: This is NOT true for ALL state employees. There are very good, and hard working employees in some of these jobs. However, in my experience, dealing with any state agency had proven to be a nightmare with few exceptions. Many employees simply don't want to be bothered, and try to do as little as possible through their workdays. For you, this means it may be difficult to get a straight answer from someone at the state boards. It depends on who answers the phone. You may get someone who will help you all you want and is professional and courteous the entire time. Then again, you may get the clerk with a pitchfork like the devil himself, LOL! But, you will never know unless you try...Has anyone brought their own tools to the salon for a pedicure?

What do they do at a pedicure, besides applying nail polish? I don't wear nail polish, so I'm going to tell them that. But, would there be a point of getting a pedicure done if I'm not getting my nails done?

a skirt or shorts or pants that roll up easily. The mani/pedicurist
will soak your feet in a warm bath, then she/he will trim your nails,
work on your cuticles and buff off your callouses on the bottom of your feet. They usually give you a massage of your feet, sometimes up your calf, then will moisturize your legs and feet with
a lotion. After all that, they will usually apply a polish to your nails.
Its not ticklish, feels pretty good. Remember to tip your
manicurist, depending on the rate. In my area, a pedicure is

they will soften your feet and cleanse the nail area, massage maybe and remove dead cells. Tell them not to cut off cuticles, only to gently push them. It is fun!
just have clean feet, you don't have to get a polish, just the pedicure, it tickles alittle when they scrub, it lasts about 2 weeks, and its very relaxing.

Your nails are trimmed/shaped, cuticles pushed back, calouses removed (best with a file and not the razor thing some places use), some scrubs may also be used to exfolitate your skin and then a massage. I would recommend that you try a color on your toes, you may like the look. There are so many to choose and if the weather is nice where you live they look great in sandals! Wear comfortable clothes and pants should be easy to roll up to just below your knees. I don't think they are ticklish but then again i am not at all ticklish. If you are concerned mention it to the tech and she can be more firm with her touch. I like to go to a salon where I can be understood in my native language but you may not find that important. Can you get HIV/AIDS from a scissor used when getting a pedicure at a salon?

Today I got a pedicure and by accident she pinched me with the scissor. It bled for like 2 seconds, but then she put a substance that contained some kind of disinfectant.
After about 10 hours of the pedicure, I got a light fever, 99 degrees Fahrenheit/37.4 degrees Celsius.
Could this be a threat? I'm like, pooping my pants of fear right now. What are the symptoms?Can you get HIV/AIDS from a scissor used when getting a pedicure at a salon?
HIV is actually pretty hard to transmit through means like this. The only reason injection drug users get it is because they pull blood into the needle to make sure they got a vein, inject, and then pass it on immediately to the next person. In order to get HIV from the scissors she would have had to stab someone who's HIV+ first and then immediately stab you! Since there wasn't any blood on the scissors, you're ok.
You're much more likely to get athlete's foot from a pedicure!Can you get HIV/AIDS from a scissor used when getting a pedicure at a salon?
You would not have any symptoms of HIV infection for about 2 more weeks even if you were infected. Also, they are supposed to place all of their tools in a container you can see that is filled with (usually a blue colored) anti-septic cleaner for just such situations, as well as lice control.
No-- not at all! The virus is killed instantly when it hits the air. The only reason it lives inside a needle is because it's air tight inside.
Also, you wouldn't notice any symptoms that fast at all. You might have the flu though!
Relax. HIV is not going to live on the scissors. It would be dead IF there was anything there. If you are really worried go get a HIV test done now and again after 3 months. Good Luck

My friends nephews cousins brothers neighbors mom is a doctor and she said no!
